Carrie Furnace Sculptures
From time to time there is a place for art to occur within the crunch of projects and they tend to be a really great way for the studio to lean on its roots in the sculptural world. @caseydroegeculturalproductions presented the opportunity to rent a set of sculptures for the entrance to an event at the Carrie Furnace. It was conceptualized that the work would act as a gateway to the event and share some aesthetic qualities. The rusted, dark, aged space where the pieces were placed introduced the attendees to the history and culture of the space. The work stands 72" tall and about 24" wide. The fabrication process was a combination of brakeforming and welding for a finished piece that has no seams and does not present its method of fabrication immediately, at least to the uninitiated. The symmetry of the work and its faceted design relates to the infrastructure and angles present within the Carrie Furnace while referencing the decay and element of discovery that is inherent to a region that has hidden remnants of its culture.
