Privacy Fence
This was a great project completed in collaboration with the client. A privacy screen that uses the circular perforations to create abstracted design. In order to adapt to the 2"x2" steel tubing vertical pickets, the non-representational design had to have appropriately sized and spaced cutouts to catch the light of the sky. Additionally the solid spaces needed to express similarly to where the panels meet in order to maintain the design.
The exciting part of this design, artistically speaking, is its non-representational nature, the design is not a simplified version of anything else. It characterizes its own expression through the use of composition. Each panel is unique and also a part of a whole.
Each panel has its own nature, value, hues, and composition. Individually, each panel is a stroke, and together a painting that connects the warms tones of the decking to the brick environment within which it rests. The downward slope on left side of this composition betrays some of its guard to the added privacy afforded by a declining hillside, allowing for a little bit more of that blue sky to peek over the edge. This was achieved by rusting a patina into the panels, and sealing it up for safe keeping!
